Captain Darren Hughes is to be appointed OC B Company when Major McIntyre retires from the ACF in April.
Captain Hughes takes up his new appointment with a wealth of cadet experience behind him. He joined his local ACF Detachment, 6 Troop Scots DG as a cadet in October 1992. After steadily rising through the APC star levels and rank system, he became Cadet RSM in 1997.
On appointment to Adult Instructor he was posted to A Troop Royal Artillery at Crow Rd in 1998 before later returning to 6 Troop Scots DG in Govan where he was appointed Detachment Commander.
After leaving 6 Troop, Captain Hughes was appointed as Battalion Sports Officer and Public Relations & Recruitment Officer, roles which he performed for a number of years. However detachment duties again called and he returned to 6 Troop Scots DG as the Detachment Commander for a second term – also doubling as the company second in command.
After a further 3 years, he left 6 Troop and was appointed Battalion Assistant Training Officer, a role which he still holds today.
During his 23 year cadet career, Captain Hughes has also held the positions of Battalion Youth Outreach Officer and Battalion Development Officer together with being the Public Relations Convenor for ACFA Scotland.
Captain Hughes told Reporting G&L that he was very much looking forward to his latest challenge when he takes over command of B Company.
