Remembering a local hero

Cadets from D Pl RHF attended the unveiling of a plaque at Nitshill train station dedicated to Sgt John Meikle MM VC a soldier who was awarded the VC posthumously for his gallantry at Marfaux, during the 4th Seaforth advance along the River Ardre, where he was killed in action on 20 July 1918.

x1He was educated Levern Public School in Nitshill, Glasgow where he lived until he joined up in February 1915.

Afterwards the cadets visited the Glasgow Museum Resource Centre and were shown around some of their World War One equipment and stores.

Overall a great day was had by the cadets and it was a very rewarding experience for all involved.
