Battalion cadets, together with their friends and relatives, assembled at the Motherwell Reserve Forces Centre last Thursday evening to receive some awards and presentations from Mr Derrick Hannan, a Deputy Lieutenant of Lanarkshire.
The Battalion hosted a Cadet Presentation Team Legacy Workshop at Dechmont CTC over the weekend. The workshop series is to enable cadets from across the services to learn, practise and develop their public speaking skills.
Cadets from throughout the Battalion area were at local Remembrance Day parades yesterday. In Glasgow over 170 cadets and adult volunteers were at the service at the cenotaph on George Square and march-past the City Chambers with representatives of the armed forces, emergency services and veterans organisations.
Cadets from D Pl RHF attended the unveiling of a plaque at Nitshill train station dedicated to Sgt John Meikle MM VC a soldier who was awarded the VC posthumously for his gallantry at Marfaux, during the 4th Seaforth advance along the River Ardre, where he was killed in action on 20 July 1918.

The Battalion Arena Display with the theme FUN, FRIENDSHIP, ACTION AND ADVENTURE took place at our Dechmont Training Centre on Saturday before an audience of distinguished guests.
A Troop Royal Artillery were the overall winners at the Battalion Swimming Championships held at the Matt Busby Sports Centre on Saturday.

Battalion cadets made a major contribution to the success of the Scottish team at the ACFA National Athletics Championships held at Grantham on Saturday 11th June.
The Commandant, as one of the Directing Staff on the Senior Officer Training Course at the Cadet Training Centre Frimley Park this week, used some volunteer ‘actors’ from A Tp RA to illustrate one of his presentations.
B Tp RA provided an engagement day at Drumchapel High School. Bdr Kieran Rankin was one of the cadets involved.
Battalion cadets were part of the Massed Pipes and Drums of the cadet forces in Scotland on Saturday evening when they performed before a large and appreciative crowd on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.
Cpl Kimberley Dougal received a unique honour on Saturday evening when she was presented with the Army Cadet Force Scotland Inspiration Trophy at a reception in the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle following the Ceremony of Beating Retreat by the Massed Military Bands and the Massed Pipes and Drums of the cadet forces in Scotland.
The Battalion has announced that its Arena Display with the theme FUN – FRIENDSHIP – ACTION – ADVENTURE will take place at Dechmont on the evening of Saturday 27th August. Planning is already well under way and its expected that all detachments will have a role to play in presenting the various activities of the cadets to the assembled guests.
Cadets from our Pipes and Drums detachment spent the last week honing their musical skills at Cameron Barracks, Inverness.
Thirty seven cadets and adult leaders from 25 ACF counties/battalions gathered at Ballykinler Camp in Northern Ireland from 26th March to 1st April for a special Duke of Edinburgh’s Award residential training event organised to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. 19 members of the Battalion have just returned from this year’s Poland Project visiting Krakow to learn about the holocaust and how the city has adapted after the war. The trip included a visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

A fantastic week of skiing by Battalion cadets in the resort of Alpendorf. The experienced ones honed their techniques gained on previous trips and the first timers went from ‘Bambi on ice’ to proficient skiers.
The countdown to an educational visit to Poland has begun for a group of cadets and CFAVs from the Battalion.
The Battalion Table Tennis Championships at Crow Road resulted in some exciting and challenging games for cadets from detachments throughout the Battalion.

Yesterday seven cadets from 3 Troop Royal Engineers (Airdrie), attended Sky Academy in Livingston, representing the Army Cadet Force, to be a part of a nationwide #iwill campaign second anniversary event.
Coming up in January there is a new quiz to replace the Battalion Relay Quiz which has been running in various forms for over 30 years!
It was wet and miserable morning for the many cadets taking part in Remembrance Parades throughout the Glasgow and Lanarkshire area.
As we head towards Remembrance Weekend when the Battalion’s cadets will be out in force to encourage everyone to ‘wear a poppy with pride’, some detachments have already been making their presence felt at local supermarkets and shopping centres.
Last night Cdt SSgt Sophie Mullen from E Pl RHF, SSI John Terry from A Tp RA and SSI David Green from D Tp RA were presented with Lord Lieutenant’s Certificates of Meritorious Service by the Lord Provost of Glasgow Councillor Sadie Docherty.
The Battalion had a most successful day at the Scottish Cross Country and Football Championships held in Edinburgh on Saturday 25th October, winning most of the available trophies and lots of individual medals.
It’s been a year since the inauguration of the Glasgow and Lanarkshire Army Cadets’ Association and last night the Chairman Major Craig Bryce presented a significant first cheque of £300 to the Commandant.
They have always come in many shapes and sizes but the old style cadet ‘huts’ – although still doing valiant service in many parts of the country – are slowing being replaced by cadet ‘centres’, often custom built to meet the demands of today’s ACF.

LBdr Connor Adens received the award for being the Best Individual Cadet at the Royal Artillery Competition – a military skills event sponsored by the RA for the ACF and CCF in the UK. The teams of 10 cadets are tested in all aspects of the Army Proficiency Syllabus. Continue reading

The Tri-Service cadet forces, under the auspices of Lowland RFCA were invited to play host to a number of guests from Education backgrounds alongside members of the Scottish Government at the recent 21 Gun Salute held at Edinburgh Castle to mark HM The Queen’s 89th Birthday.
